Prostate Problem Specialist
Most men treat prostate health like a mystery noise in their car engine: ignore it long enough, and hope it goes away. As a specialist, I see this play out every week. The reality is that most prostate issues are incredibly common and highly treatable—especially when caught early.
The Core Conditions
Prostate symptoms usually stem from one of three conditions:
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): A non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. It affects over 50% of men in their 60s.
Prostatitis: Inflammation or infection of the prostate, which can affect men of any age and cause sudden pain or discomfort.
Prostate Cancer: One of the most common cancers in men, but also one of the most treatable when detected in its initial stages.
Red Flag Symptoms to Watch For
If you notice any of the following changes, skip the “wait and see” approach:
Frequent urge to urinate, especially waking up 2+ times at night
Weak, interrupted, or hesitant urine stream
Pain or burning sensation during urination or ejaculation
Sudden difficulty starting urination or feeling like your bladder never fully empties
Unexplained discomfort in the lower back, pelvis, or hips
Actionable Steps for Daily Care
Schedule Baseline Screenings: Starting at age 50 (or 45 if you have a family history), talk to your doctor about a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test and annual checkup.
Smart Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids during the day, but taper off liquid intake 2 hours before bedtime to reduce nighttime bathroom trips.
Adopt a Nutrient-Dense Diet: Focus on foods rich in antioxidants and lycopene—cooked tomatoes, watermelon, leafy greens, green tea, and healthy fats like olive oil.
Keep Moving: Regular aerobic exercise helps maintain a healthy body weight and lowers the risk of urinary symptoms associated with BPH.
